Updated: May 27, 2021

Pregnancy is a special time for a woman, as she nurtures new life before bringing it into the world. This is why it is important to invest in documenting this precious moment.... 9 months will pass rather quickly and being able to look back on the belly bump many years later is priceless.

Admittedly, not every woman finds it easy being pregnant, some may feel that changes in their body make them look unattractive and unsexy. But with a right attitude and right photographer every woman can look like a goddess during her pregnancy photoshoot.

Here are 5 key things that every expecting mother should consider:

  1. When to book

  2. What to wear

  3. How to choose a photographer

  4. Why should you book

  5. How to pose

1. When to book?

Every pregnancy is different, but generally the best time to have the photos taken is 7th or 8th month of the pregnancy. So if you are planning to have a session in your 30-34th week, start doing your research few weeks before to give yourself enough time to find a right photographer for you.

2. What to wear?

You can wear any outfit of your choosing, and the photographer might guide you in relation to the colours that are best. Also, most maternity photographers will provide a wide selection of maternity gowns to suit every expecting mum. So there is nothing to worry about, the perfect outfit for your session is within your reach. If your partner is also attending the session, again the photographer will be able to give you steer on the clothing colour and style to match your maternity gown

3. How to choose a photographer

Look for maternity photographers in your local area using Google search engine, but don't stop there. If you have seen pregnancy images on Instagram that took your breath away, do check who the artists were and reach out to them. They might live on another continent, but they might be able to recommend someone more local to you. Also, decide whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor session, and have your moodpboard ready to discuss with the photographer. Look for someone whose work you admire, and someone who is easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease. It is very important to connect with the photographer, the rest just falls into place.

4. Why should you have a maternity session

It's one in a lifetime opportunity to capture this magical and precious time in woman's life, miss the opportunity to eternalise your pregnancy glow.

5. How to pose when pregnant

Good photographer will guide you, so there is no need to worry if you have no previous experience in front go the camera. Also, consider having your partner in the photos, even of it is just for one or two images... you will not regret it when you take out the family album many years later.
